Spending Hiatus // Week Seven

Victory! Out of the seven weeks that I've been trying to do this, I spent no money this week at all. Finally! And it was hard. We finally went grocery shopping (we were trying to eat everything from our cupboards and fridge before we did, and we did a darn good job!), and stocked up for healthy meals for hopefully the next couple of weeks. We made good choices this time, and made it out cheap, even with a few splurges. This week wasn't without all fun though, because we had a fried chicken dinner (with cornbread and tons of other yummy foods) with friends, had a sweet game of dominoes afterwards, and Mariella took me out to Meconi's yesterday, even though she didn't have to.

Joel has been sick (again) since Friday, and we have literally been cooped up in the house since then as well, which is fine. We received the Netflix disc last week to turn out Wii into an instant streaming thing, and we've been watching bad movies and good shows allllllll week. Who needs cable? Over the weekend, we also had the luck to puppysit our favorite Olympia pug, Lou. HE IS THE BEST. We were crying to give him back (not really, but we could have!). He was the perfect house guest and has convinced us of what we already knew, WE NEED A PUG IN OUR LIFE! Although the kitties weren't super into him, they put up with him and they even snuggled, but just a little bit.

Other victories for the week include going to the gym last night, even though I've had the same pounding headache for 24 hours, and having our last gym refund us $61.86. YES. Finally. We were also able to put down another $308.25 towards the credit card. After that whopper of a repair cost, it feels like we're starting over. After Thursday, we should be able to have the credit card in the $800 range again, hopefully. Sigh. It's a never-ending battle, but we will win! One of these days . . .

Also, I've decided to deactivate my Facebook account, and to delete one of my tumblrs. I've been wasting soooo much time on the internet, and it stresses me out, makes me nosy, and wastes my time. I also went through all of my starred items in my google reader, and unstarred all but the tutorials. I'll continue to put them into my tumblr to hopefully inspire me and give me good ideas, but other than that, I'm trying to limit the amount of things that I have to do, and focus.

I've also decided to start that stupid etsy I talked about forever ago, and start listing my things once a day, or however much, as long as they're up. They're too cute to give away to the goodwill, and someone will want some of my owl stuff and fabric, right? Maybe not, but we'll see! It wouldn't hurt to have them up on the web for sale while I'm still enjoying them, at least. Be prepared for etsy updates! Yay!

Have a good week!

Tax Day!

Today has been a such a nice day! It is beautiful outside! Bob is hanging all of the big paintings that were in the studio around the office, and needed a little help (you can see why above!).

Aside from the new gems that we get to see everyday that aren't hidden behind boxes and equipment now, it was payday today, so everyone took a bank walk and had lunch out (Shawn even got a new haircut!).

It's feeling so much like Spring today that I'm getting antsy to start swimming in those lakes! On my walk to work this morning, I found a daffodil laying on the sidewalk . . . and then a tulip five feet ahead . . . and then twenty feet later, I found a whole mess of pretty flowers all over the place, and no one around. Maybe I shouldn't have, but I felt bad about it and brought them to work with me. They were divided up, and now everyone in the office has a little bouquet of flowers on their desk. Delightful!

I'm finishing up all of Kendl Winters' artwork for her album that will be out on October 5th! I've got to get back to work to start uploading it to the printers. There's a sneak peak below!
Hope that you have a good day!

March and April Update in Pictures!

The past month has been a doozy of hanging out and visitors and shows and FUN! I will now show you just how much fun it has been . . .

Spring happened! Look the blossoms on the tree in front of our house! SO PRETTY! And while you're at it, check out the pretty skies around our neighborhood when we were taking a walk . . .

We went to Seattle to return some stuff to the Apple store, and to get away for the most beautiful day of the year so far (and hottest, by far!). Joel had never been to the Pike Place Market, so we went to check it out. There were flying fish, soooooo many flowers, great murals, cute boys (get it? I'm talking about Joel!), fortune tellers, jackalopes, pretty views, rides, and more. Such a fun day! Afterward, we ended up meeting Michael and Brittany at their new apartment, and going to dinner at Six Arms. Sooo yummy. We finished the night off by learning how to play poker (look at those amazing Grand Ole Opry playing cards!!), and hanging out. Sooo fun. I think we need to take more trips to Seattle -- it's growing on me, for sure!

We had more poker fun when we went to visit Vashon the night before Easter. We took the ferry over (LOVE THAT!) and looked for jellyfish, and then when we got there, not only was Sophia and Tyrel there, but so was Michael and Brittany! We ate pizza and played poker with googly-eye "money". Their giant cat, Doorstop, kept getting in the way and laying all over the cards and googly-eyes, so we decided to all pet him at once. I think he liked it more than he was annoyed! The next day, we took the ferry back and Mariella and Michael had Joel, Dirk, and I over for Easter dinner. It was delicious. Like, truly so yummy. She is the best cook in town! She made ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, soup, biscuits with honey, and salad. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures, but it was the best!

Our awesome friend, Robin, and new friend, Alex, came to visit on tour too! It was sooooo fun! They played at Northern, and Iji, Pen Pals, and The Terrordactyls all came down to play. Best show I've been to in a long, long time! All of the bands were literally the best I've ever seen them! Robin's sister, Monica, came down to visit from Tacoma (who I LOVE and want to hang out with a billion times more than we get to), and we ate burritos and had a sleepover. A couple of sleepovers, actually, since they were around for a couple of days. We got up early one morning also, and took a bunch of photos that I have yet to have edited, but I will post them when I get them going! There's a bunch of videos of all of the bands from that night too. Soooo fun. I wish they would just move here already! And bring Noah with them!!

At the end of everything, Joel and the kitties have just been so pooped that they just sleep and snuggle alllll day long. ;) Just kidding. Well, kind of.

Thanks for looking at all of our fun!

sarah

Weekend Update // Spending Hiatus: Week Six // WW Check-in!

I feel really lucky to have the awesome friends that I do. I've been having really awesome hang out sessions, reconnections, long phone conversations, and a few small trips here and there. It feels good! I know that I'm a hermit and I could stay in our house forever and watch Skins and Lie To Me (my new favorite shows!), but it's nice to break that up with good times and good talks. I feel like things are really going in the right direction now, if that makes sense? Not that they were going in the wrong direction before, but everything just seemed stagnant. It feels good, and Olympia is feeling good, and our friends are feeling good, and life is feeling good. When I look back over the way thing have gone this year, they're moving in the right direction. There are no regrets (other than not being able to get home more often), and I'm happy with that right now.

This weekend, we went up to Ikea near Seattle with Mariella (and didn't buy anything!!! Between three people even, nothing!), and had a nice time walking around. I wanted to walk out with this fantastic bulldog fabric that was only $3.99/yard -- UMM, AMAZING, but Joel talked me out of it, and I'm okay with that (even though I think that it's incredible and awesome).

When we were pulling back into town, our car started smoking (no joke!), and we made it right in front of Mariella's house. Elvin came out to help, but it just wasn't happening, and unfortunately, green fluid just started leaking out really quickly. BUMMER. We had it towed to our favorite mechanic shop, and found out today that it's going to be a little over $550. We had a cracked radiator, and it needed to be replaced. While they are at it, they're fixing our air conditioning (which blows hot air now), and giving it an oil change. There's a few other things that need to be done, but they would quickly add up to over $600, so we were told that we could wait it out and it wouldn't affect our driving, which I'm plenty fine with. They'll be finished today though, so we'll have our car back tonight for Joel to be able to get to work tomorrow (Mariella had so nicely lent us their car today so that he could get to work at 5. Blah!).

Yesterday, Mariella also sweetly put us on the list to see two of my favorite dudes, Fred and Ryan of City Center. I love these guys! They're great! And dude seriously, they just keep sounding better and better! We hung out a little last night, and this morning (or afternoon?), they came by the office to finish mixing with Calvin, and we took a few pictures. We also got to hang out with Fred's rad girlfriend, Amber. She's great! We took a few pictures of her and Fred, too. I wish they could stick around and hang out longer (or just move here and hang out forever!)!

Tonight, we are blowing our big saving week (which dude, we didn't spend anything! Not even groceries!), and taking Mariella out to dinner to thank her for letting us borrow the car, getting us into the show, being awesome to us, and for doing so much -- because dude, her and Elvin do so many nice things for us. They are the best! We're also going because it's her wedding anniversary, and Michael had to go out of town today (boo!). No one should have to be alone on their anniversary! It should be fun.

So, as for my weekly Spending Hiatus update, we were awesome all week, until tonight (and with the car, but who could have predicted that?). We're getting better, and I'm okay with the direction we're going. Obviously, our credit card won't be paid off this month( :( :( :( ), but we'll keep chipping away at it, and actually trying hard not to spend, and we'll get there, right?

As for a WW update, I tracked all week, even when I blew it and ate more than I should have. I did go to the gym a few times, and walked to work a few more. Week one though, was a success! I am down 3.5 lbs. Wish me luck for this week!

The best hamburger I've ever eaten.

Have you ever canned anything or made jam? When my Grandma Elva was around, I remember not caring at all about doing either of those things. She would can peaches and have them around forever (and they were amazingly yummy), and when it was nice out, we would go up on Douglas Pass and get elderberries and choke cherries and whatever other berries were up there, and she taught me how to make jam. And it was the best jam ever. I wish I cared enough when I was little to remember or really pay attention to how it was made. Those are skills I wish I had now! It's too bad we can't go back in time.

The other thing that I remember about her is right this second is that she made me a hamburger one night when I was staying over, and it was the best hamburger I have ever eaten. To this day, the best ever. I'm not a big hamburger or meat eater, really, but if I could eat any hamburger, it would be hers. She was so awesome.

I think that I'm missing Colorado like crazy today. If we still had her house, I would want to move back and live in it and start a life back up there. Not yet, though . . . but someday.

Does anyone want to learn to can and jam with me? It's probably a skill I should have anyway.

sarah

New on K!

Yay! Check out a few of the records and 7 inches that we're putting out! We got the Jeremy Jay, Tender Forever, Electric Sunset, and Joey Casio records and CDs in this week (but not the ES records which will have gold foil where the name is!!)! Although I have had a part in putting all of these together, can you guess which ones I did the photography for?

Hope that you are having a good day! We are having Andrew and Ben over for dinner to thank Andrew for watching our kitties over the holidays, and we're going to watch a movie (maybe Where the Wild Things Are?). If we don't watch that, I might bail out and go to the gym early. I like hanging out with dudes, but sometimes I just need some space. We'll see what happens! Have a good night!!
