mount saint helens

Itching to get out of town, Joel and I decided to see what Mount Saint Helens had to offer.  Turns out, it's not really that far from Olympia, and it's totally beautiful!

We stopped to see the giant Sasquatch (!), and the A-frame house that had been destroyed when the mountain erupted.  What a bummer!  It's hard to imagine your house being filled with sludge and forest.

We didn't really know where we were going, but continued up the mountain from a rainy drive to fog, to an almost-blue sky and tons of wind.  I was surprised to see so much desert at the top.  For the drive, Joel also made a Volcanoes Playlist from songs from his iPod.  It's surprising that there are so many, especially some specifically being about Mt. St. Helens!

This is where the top blew off -- you can actually see it still smoking, as well as where the debris slid down the mountain.  Pretty crazy.

Indian paint brush!
